2023 Costa Rica - Day 3 | Bus 2

Hello again 8th Grade families and Bullis community members,

It's Monday, March 20. This was our third day traveling together in Costa Rica, jam-packed with activities and hands-on learning!

Today’s overview will be a little different from the past two days since we divided our activities in half. For today, we’ll follow Bus 2’s journey, then Bus 1’s journey tomorrow! Here are the student volunteers’ summaries of our first “split” day.

- Ms. Claire Holman

Diyar reported:

“For Monday, March 20th, my fellow peers and I went zip lining at Arenal Mundo Aventura. We first put on all our gear while watching a safety video and tutorial. Furthermore, we boarded the truck and headed towards the first zipline. As I went up the staircase, my legs started to shake — I was trembling in fear. Once I did the first zip line, all my fears went away and I had one heck of a time riding 6 different 100-meter and 500-meter-long zip lines and seeing all the amazing waterfalls. Additionally, at the end, we walked to a cabin and learned about some of the Indigenous Costa Rican people and their culture. We even got to try an amazing Costa Rican drink called “chicha” made from pineapple, sugar, corn, and water.”

Lizzy recounted:

“While we were coming back from the zip line adventure, we were able to stop on the side of the road and see two sloths: one adult and one child. After that, we had some free time to explore our lush, tropical resort. As we began the drive to the farm, we made a quick stop at a souvenir shop. We then went to the Vida Campesina Farm. We were introduced to many new indigenous fruits and vegetables at the farm, which we had the opportunity to sample at dinner. We saw pigs, cows, and goats and we learned about the farms composting efforts. We had an in-depth presentation on the harvesting of cacao and sugar cane, where we tried fresh cacao pods and freshly squeezed sugar cane. We then capped off the evening with a delicious dinner made from the produce of the farm and tortillas we made ourselves.”

Mrs. King was kind enough to share some of her photos, along with Jared, and Mrs. Holman.

Tomorrow, we will recap Bus 1’s activities. We learned so much, stepped out of our comfort zones, and will report back soon!

All the best,

The 8th Grade Discovery Days Trip
