2025 Outer Banks, NC (OBX): Day 4

Dear Bullis Parents and Community Members,

Our four days of discovery, adventure, and learning beyond the classroom ended at our final stop—the historic Chicamacomico Life-saving Station. Standing there, with the wind in our faces and the ocean behind us, it was a perfect moment to reflect on all that the students had experienced.

Through the eyes of our student bloggers, this week has been more than just visiting new places. It has been about friendship, collaboration, problem-solving, and moments of wonder that can't always be captured in a photo or blog entry, but will stay with them long after we return.

Please enjoy two final reflections through the voices of our 6th-grade bloggers.

Oh boy, what a week we had! The week started with the Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey Ridge (sand dunes), and our hotel. We also went fishing at Jennette's Pier and visited the Coastal Studies Institute, where we learned about electricity and ocean health. We all had fun, but most importantly, we grew closer as a community, friends, and a school. We are sad to see the trip end, but happy to go home, and can't wait for next year!

The highlight of the Outer Banks was at Jennette’s Pier, where we tested the pH of the water and learned about ocean currents. After this, we went near the ocean and dropped a device called an underwater microphone into the water. This allowed us to listen to the small sounds of the ocean that we couldn't normally hear! After lunch, we visited the Coastal Studies Institute, where we made and raced ROVs. It was an exciting day full of things to learn!

Throughout this trip, we learned the customs of North Carolina as well as having fun. We went to the sand dunes, beaches, colleges, and piers. It was more than that — it was an experience for everyone! Everybody enjoyed it, no matter the activity. This trip has prepared our etiquette for future trips, and we will cherish this trip for a long time.

With full hearts (and maybe a little sand still in our shoes), we are on our way home!

Warmly,

The 6th Grade Team
