Good evening, Bullis parents and community members! Today is Thursday, March 23, and we just wrapped up the fourth day of our Discovery Days adventure in the Grand Circle. Please enjoy some highlights of the day through the reflections of Jonah and Kellen, as well as some photos that capture the fun we had! Jonah: The morning started with waking up to a surprise. It was snowing! After breakfast, we went to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Knab, Utah which features hills of red sand. Today they were half covered by snow! We brought 4 sand sleds although we probably should’ve brought more! There were small hills for beginners and big hills for more experienced people. Even those who didn't sled enjoyed the dunes by rolling and sliding down the dunes. It was so much fun! Kellen: After sledding at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, we drove to Bryce Canyon National Park. It was covered with snowfall! We walked up a path to the overlook to see the unique rocks below. We lov...

Good evening, Bullis parents and community members! Today is Wednesday, March 22. Here is the latest update of our Grand Circle journey. Please enjoy photos and reflections from our students! Ava C.: Today was the third day of our trip. We started out rafting on the Colorado River around Horseshoe Bend. We stopped at two beaches along the way, ate lunch, and enjoyed the sunny weather. Then, we headed to Knab, Utah where we got to eat dinner and roast marshmallows with Cowboy John. We also played basketball and learned how to lasso. It was fun! Chris: Tonight we got to learn about the Native Americans from this area - their stories, songs, and traditions. I like learning about other cultures! Arthur: It was a really fun day rafting on the Colorado River. We got to wave to all the people above us as we floated down the river! Adam: Today I had a lot of fun on the boat with all of my friends! ...

Good morning, 6th Grade families and Bullis community members! Yesterday, Tuesday, March 21, marked the 2nd day of our Grand Circle adventure. Mrs. Keller, Tommy S., and Vivian generously shared their experiences and reflections on the day. Please enjoy! Ms. Keller: We awoke this morning to a beautiful snowstorm. While it changed our plans to visit the Grand Canyon, we ended up having quite the adventurous day! First, we headed to Cameron, Arizona where we visited the Trading Post. Students picked out souvenirs and enjoyed looking at the handmade pieces created by residents of the reservation. We then headed to Page, Arizona. Along the way, we were able to stop at the little Colorado River and visit the largest tributary that feeds into the Grand Canyon. Everyone loved the views and were awed by the sights. Our last stop of the day was fun although quite messy! We visited the Toadstool Rocks. Due to the rain, our short hike was a bit muddy. Students had such a great time playing aro...

2023 Grand Canyon: Day 1

Good evening from Arizona, 6th Grade families and Bullis community members! Today, Monday, March 20, marked our first day traveling together to Arizona as a 6th-grade class. I asked some of our students to share their observations and experiences of the trip so far. Enjoy! Talia: Today on our adventure we went to see the Native American castle at Montezuma National park next to Beaver Creek. We also saw very pretty buildings that were made from rock and mud. Next, on our way to Sedona, we noticed that everything was orange so that all of the buildings blend with the rocks around. The houses all fit in with the environment. As we were walking around Sedona, we saw a rock that looked like a Snoopy. The rocks all were red and that was from the chemical weathering. As we were driving to our hotel, the views and the cliffs were so pretty. The snow was on the top of the mountain. It was so spectacular! Finally, we went rock climbing and had a great time! Vivian: Montezuma Castle is a 4 ...
