2026 Outer Bank, NC: Day 3

Image
Dear Bullis Families and Community, Our final full day in the Outer Banks felt like the closing chapter of a truly special journey—one filled with exploration and collaboration that our students will carry with them long after they return home. Students began their morning at Jennette’s Pier, where they participated in a series of STEM experiences that built meaningful curricular connections to what they have been studying in the classroom. Each workshop invited students to think deeply, ask questions, and apply their learning to the real-world coastal environment around them. The day continued at the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, where students explored the powerful legacy of courage and service along North Carolina’s coast. Later, time spent on the beach offered a chance to simply be together. Standing with the wind at their faces and the ocean behind them, it was also a perfect moment to reflect on all that has been experienced and shared this week. Tonight, we gathered for ...

2026 Florida Keys: Day 4

Image
Dear Bullis Community, We ended our final day in the Florida Keys with fabulous bucket-list memories of swimming with dolphins, snorkeling among octopus, parrotfish, and massive (but docile) barracuda! The other bus ended the week by visiting the Turtle Hospital to learn about how marine scientists are aiding turtles afflicted with "bubble butt," which occurs when sea turtles are struck by boats and their equilibrium is compromised. The students got up close and personal with the testudine patients, and a few brave kids even adopted a sea turtle before heading to Robbie’s Marina to feed wild tarpon! The two groups convened for a poolside pizza party while the Florida sun set behind us. The group reflected on our action-packed week by watching student-created PSAs about how to protect the marine environment, and by sharing "roses and thorns" (highlights and challenges of the week) before hitting the hay in anticipation of an EARLY alarm in order to conquer the secu...

2026 Florida Keys: Day 3

Image
Greetings Bullis community, Wednesday greeted us in classic Florida Keys fashion—with a bright, cloudless sky overhead and crystal-blue waters all around us. Students experienced the Sea Turtle Hospital, more kayaking through brackish mangrove waters, and snorkeling off a dive boat during perfect conditions! We learned that the Florida Reef Tract is the third-largest barrier reef system in the world and the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States. Please enjoy the day's recap from the 7th graders themselves below: "When we first started our day, we walked in the warm air to breakfast. We ate a delicious breakfast with pancakes and bacon. Then we headed to the bus where our tour guide sang us a morning song that we do every morning. Next, we drove to John Pennekamp to go kayaking! Kayaking was super fun. We learned about the different mangroves and the colors of them which are red, black, and white. Then we pulled our kayaks into the water and started...

2026 Outer Banks, NC: Day 2

Dear Bullis Families and Community, This morning, we were greeted with perfect beach weather - warm sunshine, clear skies, and the gentle sound of waves nearby. Students spent the morning at the Coastal Studies Institute, participating in the Ocean ROVers & NC Shipwrecks Workshops and immersing themselves in hands-on activities. The afternoon brought even more discovery on Roanoke Island, where students stepped into the role of archaeologists and even boarded a replica of the Elizabeth! From morning to evening, the day buzzed with inquiry and lively conversation as students explored new concepts and encouraged one another through every activity. They are truly approaching this trip with a sense of wonder - leaning into the unknown and making each moment as memorable as it is meaningful. Please scroll below to enjoy some photos, along with reflections from our 6th-grade bloggers, through their own eyes. Sarah S. '32 reflects: Today was so fun! We started our day with a t...

2026 Costa Rica: Day 6

Image
Greetings Bullis families and community! It is our final evening in Costa Rica, and emotions are bittersweet. As mentioned yesterday, the groups switched itineraries today to plant trees, complete a waterfall hike, take surf lessons, and frolic on Playa Chaman. Then it was time to travel by bus to San Jose, and stop for souvenir shopping on the way. We ended the evening by celebrating and reflecting on the trip with our Global Works leaders, Mrs. Hannah White, and Dr. Weinstein-Sears. There were many different emotions - sadness at the thought of leaving, joy for the memories made, confidence from stepping outside their comfort zone, and an eagerness at the thought of reuniting with families.  Here are two reflections on our final day and the trip as a whole: Cayla G. '30 writes Today was our last full day in Costa Rica, and it felt really bittersweet. In the morning, my group headed into the rainforest to plant trees, which made me feel like we were actually helping the envi...

2026 Florida Keys: Day 2

Dear Bullis community, Our day in the Florida sunshine was full of aquatic activity, as students steered kayaks through mangroves, swam with dolphins, and snorkeled off the beach at John Pennekamp State Park. The two groups united at a fishery for dinner, and you can hear the day's recap from the travel journalists themselves below: "First, I woke up at 6:50 a.m. and was pretty tired from the day before, so I didn't get out of bed until 7:00. Once my roommate and I got dressed, we headed down to the pool for instructions. After instructions, we went to breakfast at a nice spot next to a massive pool. The breakfast was great; I had bacon, French toast, and cereal. After breakfast, we hopped on the big bus and went to John Pennekamp State Park, and it was super bright and windy outside. We got our snorkel gear and hopped into the cold water. After I did all of the tasks, I got out of the frigid water. After we finished snorkeling, we ate lunch. We had the option to eat lu...
