2024 Costa Rica: Day 6

Image
Good afternoon from the San Jose airport,  The time has come to say goodbye to Costa Rica. Students are checked in and ready to board their flight. At our group debrief this morning with Dr. Moreno, there were many different emotions - sadness, joy, nostalgia, and excitement at the thought of reuniting with families. Students also shared their highlights with the group - zip lining, white water rafting, meeting students from the Zeta Trece school, and the hot springs at Hacienda Orosi. Eden S. '28 shares her favorite moments from the trip:  My three highlights of this trip are: the beach. It was so much fun, and I played volleyball with my friends. I also loved zip lining with my classmates, and seeing the mountains. We also had a karaoke party on the girls bus singing Party in the USA. I loved the trip so much! Yolanda J. '28 reflects on the highlights of the trip: The hot springs were my favorite part of the trip because they were really calming. Since we had done...

Hello again Bullis families and community!  It is our final evening in Costa Rica, and emotions are bittersweet. Students and chaperones had a lovely day at Playa Mantas and Rainforest Adventure, where students zip-lined, rode the Aerial Tram, and observed the Butterfly Garden. Three students reflected on their final day exploring Costa Rica: Olivia W. '28 writes about the day:  Today, we spent our last day in Costa Rica to the fullest. Starting off with a delicious breakfast at our 2nd hotel, then hopping on the bus to go zip lining. My group went first, and it was amazing. There were 14 different lines leading up to the final one, where we dropped straight down. We then stopped for a snack before heading into the butterfly garden. On the way, we saw a toucan and many iguanas crawling around. We even got to see bats that were hidden under trees. The butterfly garden was beautiful. We saw all types, from a classic blue to yellow spotted. Next, we spent the afternoon with...

2024 Costa Rica: Day 4

Greetings from Punta Leona!  Students were awake bright and early this morning and traveled out of San Jose to meet and learn with students from Zeta Trece school in La Fortuna. It was a colorful, exciting, and wonderful experience for all the students and teachers involved.  Here is an overview of how the day went from two of our students.  Ryan H. '28 reflects on the day: Today was definitely an early start to the morning for some, but rest assured, nobody was forgotten. We boarded the buses in front of the Crown Plaza Hotel for the last time. Off we went, driving down the windy roads inbound for the Zeta Trece school in La Fortuna. The nearly four-hour drive was definitely worth it because the views were beautiful. The moment we stepped off the bus, the eyes of the students and faculty moved towards us. The first event we attended was the assembly. As students started to take their seats, many non-Spanish speaking Bullis students started to practice basic words ...

2024 Costa Rica: Day 3

Hola Bullis community! Day #3 was spent on the peaceful and picturesque landscape of Hacienda Orosi. Students had the opportunity to hike through the farm, see the animals, and spend time relaxing in the hot springs. Everyone had a great day, and here are two reflections about their experiences:  A few words from Olivia C. '28: After starting day 3 with an amazing breakfast, we headed to Hacienda Orosi. At Hacienda Orosi, we went on a hike where we could see the beauty of Costa Rica! Then, everyone had the opportunity to get in the hot springs. At the hot springs, they had thermal mud we could put on our bodies and wash off once dry. Multiple students enjoyed this activity. Next, we had lunch, where we had the option of having fish or rice and chicken with a dessert. Following lunch, we went back into the hot springs, where everyone could chill and talk with their friends. The hot springs had an amazing view overlooking some of Costa Rica's gorgeous mountains. Heading back...

Hello again Bullis families!  It has been a colorful and thrilling Day #2 as students braved rapids on the Sarapiqui River, and spotted many different Costa Rican creatures at the Tirimbina Rainforest Center.  Students had quite a bit to say about their adventures on the bus rides back to San Jose. Crosby P. '28 writes:  After being up for a whopping 24 hours, we had a full day ahead. Today began with breakfast at the hotel. I enjoyed eating and relaxing outside before we started with activities. First, we arrived at the Tirimbina Rain Forest Center. We walked a frightening, tall, and thin bridge. Some animals we encountered were iguanas, bullet ants, bats, monkeys, lizards, and birds. After our wonderful rainforest excursions, we ate a common Costa Rican lunch, which included rice, beans, and other Costa Rican desserts. During this time, I met a sweet dog. After lunch, we went white water rafting on the Sarapiqui River with our excellent tour guide, Diego. Despite f...

Greetings from Costa Rica! It has been quite a day for our 8th grade students - starting with early morning flights and ending with learning a traditional Costa Rican dance! The trip is off to a great start, and students are enjoying themselves as they settle into San Jose. Here are two first-hand perspectives from our young world travelers about their day and experiences at Senor y Senora Ese.  Olivia S. '28 reflects: Hola from Costa Rica! To get here, we boarded very early flights to either Miami or Charlotte, and later, we went on a second flight to our final destination in Costa Rica. Upon arriving, we met our tour guides, boarded two coach buses, and drove through San José, Costa Rica's capital city. On the way to lunch, we learned lots of new facts about San José and the country of Costa Rica. After lunch, we drove back through San José to explore our hotel rooms and settle in. Half an hour later, we traveled to dinner, where we took a deeper dive into Costa Rican c...
