2023 Grand Canyon: Day 4


Good evening, Bullis parents and community members!

Today is Thursday, March 23, and we just wrapped up the fourth day of our Discovery Days adventure in the Grand Circle. Please enjoy some highlights of the day through the reflections of Jonah and Kellen, as well as some photos that capture the fun we had!


Jonah: The morning started with waking up to a surprise. It was snowing! After breakfast, we went to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Knab, Utah which features hills of red sand. Today they were half covered by snow! We brought 4 sand sleds although we probably should’ve brought more! There were small hills for beginners and big hills for more experienced people. Even those who didn't sled enjoyed the dunes by rolling and sliding down the dunes. It was so much fun!

Kellen: After sledding at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, we drove to Bryce Canyon National Park. It was covered with snowfall! We walked up a path to the overlook to see the unique rocks below. We loved the snow - especially since we didn't get to enjoy any back home! We even made snowballs! Although we were cold and wet, it overall was a very beautiful site.

Greetings from Costa Rica! It has been quite a day for our 8th grade students! They started with early morning flights, and ended the night working with our phenomenal Global Works Leaders to create community agreements on how to be inclusive, communicate effectively, and make the most of their time here in Costa Rica. The trip is off to a great start, and students are enjoying themselves as they settle into La Fortuna. The turbulence on the flight was a bit rocky at times, but we still made it through and I am excited to be here. We stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. Even though it was only chicken, rice, and beans, the food was delicious and very flavorful. 2025 Florida Keys: Day 1

Hello! We've arrived safely in Key Largo after a looooong day of travel and adventure in the Everglades. Students viewed the wildlife from airboats, on foot, tram, and even by flashlight during an evening walk to spot nighttime predators in hunting action. It was Gator Nation down here in the Sunshine State! Please read below as some students describe their experiences in their own words: Ava N. Our first day in Florida consisted of many activities, including taking a tram tour through the Everglades National Park. Although the sun beat down on our backs, it was incredible to see the crocodiles, birds, and alligators! When we passed by a crocodile so close it could've snapped an arm or leg off, everybody took memorable photos. The fabulous fish in the crystal clear water swam with passion. 2025 Outer Banks, NC (OBX): Day 1

Dear Bullis Parents and Community Members, We've safely arrived in the beautiful Outer Banks! Our day began at the Wright Brothers Memorial, where students enjoyed stunning views and impressed the ranger by asking thoughtful questions and engaging with the history around them. Next, we explored Jockey's Ridge State Park, where students soaked up the sun, explored the rolling sand dunes, and enjoyed friendly games of football and soccer. In the evening, we enjoyed a delicious BBQ dinner (the hush puppies were a huge hit!) and spent time gathering together at the hotel to share laughs and wind down. We're so proud of how our students embraced our first-day adventures with joy!
