2025 Costa Rica: Day 1
Greetings from Costa Rica!
It has been quite a day for our 8th grade students! They started with early morning flights, and ended the night working with our phenomenal Global Works Leaders to create community agreements on how to be inclusive, communicate effectively, and make the most of their time here in Costa Rica. The trip is off to a great start, and students are enjoying themselves as they settle into La Fortuna.
Here are two first-hand perspectives from our young world travelers about their day and experiences in Costa Rica.
Sienna S. reflects:
"Today has definitely been a journey! The turbulence on the flight was a bit rocky at times, but we still made it through and I am excited to be here. We stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. Even though it was only chicken, rice, and beans, the food was delicious and very flavorful. Seeing all of the oxen and wildlife made me realize that we are definitely in a foreign environment, and I am very excited to see more. I can't wait to go white water rafting tomorrow!"
Elle P. writes:
"Getting off the plane and arriving in Costa Rica was a great experience, because our guide Randall was so interactive and engaging from the beginning. This gave me insight into what the rest of the trip will look like. This continued when we went to a local restaurant for lunch - all of the servers were very kind and helpful the entire time. Arriving at the hotel was a relief after a long day of travel. There were so many options at dinner, and everywhere you walk you see something new and beautiful in the Costa Rican scenery. I can't wait to bond with the local community at our day of service tomorrow, and see what their daily life looks like."
After students get some much-needed rest, half of the group will set off for white-water rafting on the Balsa River, while the other half participates in a Community Service event in Santa Ana and explores traditional Costa Rican cheesemaking.
Please enjoy some photos from the day. We will continue to update you about our adventures throughout the week.
Pura vida!
Best,
The 8th Grade Team
