2026 Costa Rica: Day 4
Greetings from Uvita!
The time to say goodbye to La Fortuna and Volcano Arenal has come. Students had their final breakfast at La Montana de Fuego, set off for zip-lining, and boarded buses for a cozy ride to Uvita.
Here are a few words from our adventurous students about today's experiences.
Mari W. '30 reflects on the day
Today, we packed up our things from La Montana de Fuego to get ready for our next adventure. We got on the bus with all of our stuff and headed down to some zip lines! The zip lines were scattered across the forest, and we were high in a canyon full of trees and the view of a beautiful lake. The zip lines were fast, and we were zooming through the forest! There were seven zip lines, and they were long enough so we could enjoy the view, solo or in duos with our friends. After facing our fear of heights, we got some snacks and got back on the bus for our ride to the Pacific side of Costa Rica. The bus ride was long, but the views made up for it. After taking naps, watching movies, and enjoying Costa Rica, we arrived in Uvita!

We woke up at 7 AM today, and the weather was humid and cloudy as usual. My roommates and I had to make sure that we didn't leave any of our items behind because we were going to Uvita, which is around 7 hours away from La Fortuna. We also had zip-lining as part of our schedule, and anxiety was really high for everyone, but we pushed through and faced our fears! The zip line consisted of 7 different zip-lines, the first one being the highest in Costa Rica at ~635ft in the air. Once I started the course, all my nervousness mysteriously disappeared. Once I finished, I felt like I wanted to go again! We got back on the bus and got ready for our bus ride to our next hotel. We rode past impressive mountains, volcanoes, and villages. Although I thought the ride was going to be long, surprisingly, because of the few stops we made, we reached the hotel in no time!
From the perspective of Mariah R. '30
Today, we went zip-lining, with persistent nerves and a couple of tears, I stepped onto the platform. The helper gently laid me back and put me in the right position. He suddenly let go, and I felt the air whoosh through my hair. While zipping over the trees, my nerves were killed and replaced with a shining smile. With beautiful water to my left, and a complex rainforest to my right, I felt a gush of joy and gratitude. Before I knew it, I was reaching the end, and a kind man cushioned my impact. Before I knew it, the zip line maze was over. With a couple of screams later and loads of fun, I can ensure this is a memory I will never forget!
Tomorrow, one group will have the opportunity to take surf lessons at Playa Chaman, while the other group will embark on a waterfall hike while participating in tree-planting along the way. The students are eager to see the beautiful shoreline and make lasting memories on the coast of Costa Rica.
Here are some photos from the day to enjoy.
Pura Vida!
