2025 Costa Rica: Day 3

Bullis School 8th grade Discovery Days

Hola Bullis Community!

Our students have spent another beautiful and action-packed day in La Fortuna! As mentioned yesterday, students were able to switch itineraries today. All of the students were eager to participate in the community service, cheesemaking, and white-water rafting after hearing how wonderful the experiences were from their peers.

Here are two reflections on today's events from our young globe-trotters.

From the perspective of George S.:

"Hello from Costa Rica! Today, we went out to a local community to do some service by building new sidewalks. It was hard work, but I felt very accomplished when we finished laying the concrete! It was very fun to be able to collaborate and interact with locals, like the kids who we played soccer with after our work! We also went to a farm to learn about the ins and outs of making cheese, as well as meeting the animals. I can't wait to go home and share everything with my friends and family, but until then, there's always the view!"

Brandon W.'s thoughts on the day:

"Pura Vida! Today was very eventful, so let's get started. First, we went to Santa Ana, a community that works with Global Works. We helped by filling in sidewalks, but there were multiple jobs like shoveling rocks, digging up the outline for the sidewalk, mixing cement, etc. We filled in four sections of the sidewalk! It was very rewarding to help the developing community even if the work was tough to complete. After the service, we headed to the Chrisley Farm, where we learned how to make cheese and how Chrisley enjoys providing food for himself and his family. We also saw plenty of animals like cows, pigs, chickens, and even green iguanas. Finally, after the farm, we went back to Santa Ana and played soccer and American Football, which brought us closer with the families in the community. Overall, it was an awesome experience."

Tomorrow, students will have the opportunity to ride the aerial tram and zip line as their final activity in La Fortuna. After that, we travel to our second destination—the picturesque costal town of Uvita.

As always, please enjoy some photos from the day.

Pura Vida!

Best,

The 8th Grade Team
