2023 Florida Keys and Everglades: Day 1

Good morning from the Florida Everglades!

Monday, March 20

Seventh graders are tuckered out after a super early start and a busy day exploring the Everglades National Park. We protected our ears with orange earplugs as we zipped through sawgrass marshes on hydroplane boats, came within six feet of massive 13-foot American Alligators, saw dozens of species of birds, and hiked over tropical hardwood hammocks and through freshwater marshes. We ended the evening with a sunset dinner on the beach. The sun popped out at the end of the day, and we're looking forward to another packed day tomorrow dissecting lionfish, practicing snorkeling, and kayaking through mangroves.

Colton
: Today we went on a super-fast and action-packed airboat ride. We went from learning about new animals to speeding through the grass in the span of 10 seconds. We were blasting through the everglades while doing crazy moves like drifting and 180s. We are all thankful for this amazing experience.

Sully: The wildlife show was amazing, to say the least. Tom, our instructor, talked about wildlife, and he was so enthusiastic and entertaining. He kept our eyes on him and everyone was engaged and active. We learned all about crocodiles and alligators and how temperatures affect their life. Our teacher, Mrs. McPhaul, even kissed a toad. We had such a great time from the speedy fan boats to the action-packed animals.
