2025 Costa Rica: Day 5

Bullis Discovery Days surfing in Costa Rica

Hello, Bullis community!

Students were up early this morning to spend an eventful and fulfilling day exploring beautiful Uvita. Their day comprised of surf lessons on Playa Chaman, tree-planting to support Costa Rica's ecosystem, a waterfall hike, and ended with salsa lessons and karaoke!

Everyone had a phenomenal time, and here are two reflections about the day:

A few words from Mahlia A.:

"Today was amazing! We woke up from our first night in Uvita, bright and early, at 6:30 AM. First, we headed over for breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, our day officially started. My bus group headed to the mountains for a hike. As we ascended the mountain, we stopped along the way to help the Costa Rican forest ecosystem by planting trees. We then headed higher up the mountain and finally reached a beautiful waterfall. As we took a dip in the refreshing water, we played games, had contests, and took photos. We then went to the beach for a surf lesson. After patiently waiting and learning how to surf from the instructor, we were finally ready to ride some waves. It was a truly exhilarating experience. Finally, we went for dinner at the hotel, followed by salsa dancing lessons from one of our amazing guides, Randall. We then had a karaoke party, which was a great way to bond and have fun with my classmates."

The day from Zaki M.'s perspective:

"Pura Vida. Today contained many fun endeavors, from swimming in a waterfall to surfing the coasts of Costa Rica. My fellow classmates and I woke up at the hotel and ate fresh fruit and eggs for breakfast. But before getting to swim, we hiked the rainforest and planted different types of trees. The hike was quite peaceful and we even got to see creatures such as horses and different birds. The waterfall was powerful and blinding, creating a strong barrier. We had lunch at the hotel—quesadillas and fries. Then we departed to surf in the beautiful Costa Rican sea among the trees and the breeze. Surfing required balance and determination, but once you understood, it was a blast. My mouth was dry and wrinkly from the saltwater, but luckily, I had a tasty beverage. Lastly, we had a great dinner with salsa lessons and a live performance from Mr. Springs during karaoke."

Tomorrow, we will spend one more morning relaxing and enjoying the beach in Uvita. Then, we will travel to San Jose to celebrate our final night by having a goodbye dinner with our Global Works leaders.

As always, please enjoy some photos from the day.

Pura Vida!

Best,

The 8th Grade Team
