2023 Costa Rica - Day 2
Buenas Noches!
It's Sunday, March 19. This was our second day traveling together to Costa Rica, and what a blast we had! Two more student volunteers composed a rundown of events as well as their observations throughout the day, so please read below and see the photos for our adventures today.
Emma shared:
“Today we drove 2 hours to go White Water Rafting on the Sarapiqui River and rafted for about 2 hours. We got taught how to row and the rafting leaders gave us instructions like “lean-in” and we flipped our paddles upside down and faced our face to the bottom. The rapids weren’t too scary—-they were great for beginner levels. I had a lot of fun screaming and rafting with my friends while we splashed other boats. We also got a chance to jump off the boat and went swimming in the river. I had a great time, and it flew by extremely fast. After water rafting, we had soft tacos and chips. It was so scrumptious that I had to get seconds!”
Katie also shared:
“After white water rafting and having lunch, we traveled to a local Costa Rican supermarket where we found plenty of snacks, new foods to try, and subsequently hopped on the bus to go to the new hotel. The hour and a half drive went by quick because we could look out at the beautiful views and socialize. After arriving at the hotel, everyone was astonished to see the beautiful cabins in the rainforest that we will be sleeping in for the next few nights. We got assigned our rooms and headed out to the long-awaited hot springs! The hot springs are hot tubs powered naturally by the volcano it lies on. There were dozens of pools at the hot springs, each with a new cool feature that kept us switching to find new pools. As we climbed higher up, the pools got hotter because they were closer to the volcano. On top of the relaxing pools, there were even 2 super fun water slides!! Everyone had a blast! Finally, it was time to go to dinner and we went to a delicious buffet with a wide variety of fruits and even cuisines ranging from tacos and rice to even steak and fries. Inevitably, everyone had something to enjoy! Overall, we had a great afternoon!“
Mrs. Velikovsky was kind enough to share some of her photos, along with Mrs. King.
***Coming soon, we have a bit of a surprise! We purchased photos taken by the rafting company at multiple stops along the river — they captured each boat, and they are fabulous! As soon as we are given the link to the photo uploads, we will share them with you to see and download. Stay tuned!
After a water-filled-fun day, we’re settling down and ready to see the sights tomorrow with our group splitting up for zip-lining through the rainforest, a wildlife refuge tour, and more. We can’t wait to update you then!
Sincerely,
The 8th Grade Discovery Days Trip
